The Fourth Way: The Conservative Playbook for a Lasting GOP Majority Hardcover – January 24, 2017
Purchase options and add-ons
Hugh Hewitt interviewed candidate Trump fifteen times on his nationally syndicated show during the 2016 campaign and participated as a panelist in four primary debates. What he learned from those news-making moments, along with his service for two Republican Presidents and his intimate knowledge of Washington, puts him in a perfect position to spell out how Trump and a unified GOP can transform the country and earn a lasting place in history. From defense to immigration, from entitlements to health care, Hewitt outlines how the new President, with the top leaders in Congress and with allies in fifty statehouses, can use November’s stunning result to find a Fourth Way out of the gridlock and the destructive showdowns that have marked the past quarter century of American politics.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am a life long Democrat who remains open to understanding different political views. I had seen Mr. Hewitt on television during the debates and found his questions of the candidates fair. I sensed his effort to help voters better understand the position of the candidates rather than focusing on the drama and spectacle.
I learned so much from this book! The ideas he proposes on infrastructure make so much sense. Instead of vague ideas about building more roads or repairing water systems he gives specifics about critically need infrastructure such as dental clinics and swimming pools to help reduce obesity in kids. Then he has a brilliant idea on how to pay for it with a program to get corporations to bring back their profits now sitting in foreign accounts.
He has big bold ideas that he was trying to get President Trump and the Republican Congress to act on in the first 100 days of the new Administration. I would have supported a plan like this and voted Republican if that had happened. But we are 6 months into this administration and nothing has happened except an attempted ban on Muslims, ridiculous Twitter rants about a woman's face lift, and an effort to accuse the media of fake news. No coherent policy direction on anything. After 6 months. What a list opportunity!
But Mr. Hewitt has done a great service to people like me whose mind was opened and excited by a conservative. I hope he will continue writing about these ideas and hopefully we will start to see both Republican and Democratic leaders embracing these fresh and innovative ideas.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseHugh Hewitt makes a compelling argument our National Leaders in D.C. (President and Executive Branch Appointees, Senators, Representatives, Extra-governmental power brokers) - To act very fast to deliver far reaching, substantial change to the way that the federal government governs. The fundamental arguments are aimed at setting the conditions upon which American economic and social vigor can be restored.
A quick read (3-4 hours)... that gets directly to the point... and is a compelling call to action.
Proposes infrastructure stimulus dollars -- put into the hands of local people empowered to act quickly. Outlines expenditures for expanding the Navy's fleet to ~350 ships. Speaks to the historic opportunity to reign-in the federal judiciary from its recent proclivity to legislate from the bench. Argues for restructuring and simplifying the tax code.
It is not a comprehensive blueprint.... it does not address specifics for restructuring medical care, environmental regulation, or a host of other important issues.
The important message is seizing the historic opportunity and delivering substantive, enduring changes that Promote American Interests and the welfare of Americans.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDon't believe the negative reviews. The Fourth Way is a winner. Hewitt is a well-grounded, articular conservative who offers a thoughtful analysis about how the Trump administration can forge a powerful political movement that will help America on every level. Clear-eyed, practical and compassionate in tone, this book will encourage conservatives and school liberals/progressives. As a pastor, I love that this book avoids acrimony, bitterness or disrespect toward those who disagree. In fact, this book is not hyper-partisan in any way; wherever possible, Hewitt encourages President Trump to operate in "the key of we."
Other reviews have outlined the content. What I like is that Hewitt offers forceful, thoughtful arguments calling for tax and immigration reform, the rebuilding of our armed forces, infrastructure investments and ideas about how good choices for Supreme Court and federal judges can reshape much of what is currently wrong in America.
A bonus in this book are personal stories of people making a real difference helping others. It's obvious that Hewitt himself has been one of those people. This book is not just a list of policy proposals that will put you to sleep; it's an optimistic, well-crafted narrative that provides a vision for America's future.
I'm hopeful that our elected officials at every level in Washington will read this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2017Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseExcellent and fast read. Hewitt states a case for a new approach to government based on the Framers' plan for the United States. While I do not agree with all of Hewitt's recommendations, I do agree with the position that the government is to work for the people not the people for the government. Hewitt present a very significant approach to getting the government back to that position. If you approach this book with an open mind, it will make you think about where we should be headed. If not, you will most likely hate this book for the far right will believe it does not go far enough and the far left will believe it will destroy the U.S. So open your mind and read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2017Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI just finished devouring The Fourth Way and I am going back to review various chapters. As a fellow member of the birth class of 1956, Hugh Hewitt is the king. He has created a battle plan to assist in driving the enemies ideas into the sea. This book is a must read for all of those who want the government that all freedom loving people seek. The chapter in the book on the judicial branch reconstruction is especially readable and takes a gray area subject and makes it crystal clear. There is no excuse for our Republican majorities to say they do not know how to get to the goalposts. This is an excellent book from the conservative torchbearer. Blessings.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseToo much emphasis on the courts. Even though this is an important subject, he goes on and on as only a lawyer could. On tax reform he forgets that each new Congress can and does change the tax code to benefit their wealthy bosses
