FBI conducts illegal immigrant raids in D.R. Horton developments
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - The FBI continues to crack down on illegal immigrants.
This week, the FBI, Homeland Security and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office quickly swept into action.
Two agents were photographed walking an illegal immigrant, with his hands behind his back, in the Jubilee Farms neighborhood in Daphne.
Michael Veldman, who lives in this neighborhood, said there has been a lot of construction in the area and got curious when law enforcement officers arrived on those sites.
“I decided to walk down to the construction area, and I saw about 15 ATF agents,” Veldman said. “I had bumped into another neighbor walking through there and that neighbor had told me that they had apprehended 15 immigrants from both construction sites in this neighborhood.”
Signs in the neighborhood show this is a development by D.R. Horton, which is a home construction company.
A law enforcement source told FOX10 News illegal immigrants were also arrested in the Stonebridge neighborhood in Spanish Fort, which is another development by D.R. Horton.
According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, this law prohibits employers to knowingly hire, recruit or refer illegal immigrants. If they do, they could face multiple consequences, including fines and even up to six months in jail.
We asked Special Agent in Charge of the Mobile FBI Office if anyone besides the illegal aliens would be held accountable.
“Yeah, I don’t want to get into specifics about the business consequences,” Parker Still said. “You know other than like I said earlier, these are enforcement actions that. The FBI, along with our partners, specifically Homeland Security Investigations, HSI as well as Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department were involved with.”
FOX10 News reached out to D.R. Horton’s Baldwin County Office to try and get a statement about the arrests. They said they could not comment.
FOX10 News called and emailed the company’s headquarters in Texas, but we have not heard back.
