Augusta officials announced a citywide water disruption this morning.

Mayor Garnett Johnson made the announcement at a 6:30 a.m. news conference Sunday. The media was made aware of the conference at 5:50 a.m.

According to a news release, water is expected to be restored within 24-48 hours.

Trash and debris from Hurricane Helene blocked the city’s ability to pump water and damaged the pumping infrastructure, according to the release.

Officials are looking for ways to establish temporary water distribution sites, it said.

One site is at Augusta Municipal Building, 535 Telfair St., Augusta GA 30901. From 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., each family can receive one case of water per household, the city announced.

A 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew announced by Johnson late Friday remains in effect.
