When a rebellious, skateboarding-obsessed tween is forced to go on a family trip to Mexico, she’s determined to prove that she’s old enough to do her own thing… even if it means confronting an ancient — and angry — demigod. In Mexico, a 12,000-year-old demigod, Punguari, thinks it’s high time she becomes a full god like her parents. But Punguari’s mom says she’s nowhere near mature enough. Heck, she can’t even remember to raise the moon when she’s asked to. Punguari… doesn’t take the feedback well. Acting against her parents’ orders, she attempts to turn herself into a real, all-powerful god. But it unleashes utter chaos — she’s too young to behold those powers — so her mom is forced to curse her.
Eight hundred years later, Ronnie Anne’s just turned 12 — and she’s ecstatic. But her plans to spend her “Summer of 12” with her best friend, Sid, are dashed when her mom, Maria, surprises her with a family trip to visit their matriarch, Mama Lupe, in Mexico. Unfortunately for Ronnie Anne, who’s desperate to show to her mom that she’s grown up enough to be on her own, she ends up accidentally freeing Punguari from that ancient curse. So now it’s up to Ronnie Anne to save the day.
