‘He Should Have Said Undocumented’: Nancy Pelosi Corrects Biden For Saying ‘Killed by an Illegal’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told CNN that President Joe Biden “should have said undocumented” on Thursday after he said Laken Riley was “killed by an illegal” during his State of the Union address.

During an interview with Pelosi following Biden’s speech, CNN anchor Dana Bash said, “Madam speaker, one of the clearly ad-libbed moments was during the section about immigration,” before playing a clip of Biden referring to 22-year-old Riley – who was murdered last month – as “Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal.”

Pelosi replied defensively, “Now he should have said undocumented, but that’s not a big thing, ok? What’s the big thing?”

“I actually wasn’t even gonna ask about that,” said Bash. “I was just gonna ask more about the moment. But you do think that he should have said undocumented? That wasn’t going to be my question.”

Pelosi responded, “Well, we usually say ‘undocumented.’ He said ‘illegal.’ I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t think it’s a big deal because I think his focus was on the sympathy for the family. It’s a terrible tragedy.”

She concluded, “It’s a terrible situation that anybody losing a child or a family member. It’s a terrible situation, but I think he handled it well.”
