Anheuser-Busch announced it has acquired Cleveland-based Platform Beer Co.cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Anheuser-Busch announced Wednesday morning that it has acquired five-year-old Platform Beer Co. of Cleveland.

Platform has grown steadily and quickly over the years, beginning as an incubator business in 2014. It has three locations in Cleveland - its taproom on Lorain Avenue, its production facility on Vega Avenue, and the planned Phunkenship - a sour-production brewery - on Sackett Avenue.

It also has taprooms in Columbus and Cincinnati.

It's not the first craft brewery that Anheuser-Busch - maker of Budweiser, Bud Light, Natural Light and other mainstream beers - has acquired over the years. It owns Goose Island Beer Co. of Chicago, Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado and several others.

Executives from St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch and Platform are scheduled to speak on the deal this morning.
