Google Invests $300M to Compete With ChatGPT Claude by Anthropic
Claude by Anthropic was developed by scientists who left OpenAI. Google has invested $300 million in it to compete with OpenAI and ChatGPT.
This is going to be interesting to see. Microsoft dropped $10B on ChatGPT , and now Google just dropped $300 million on an AI start-up called Anthropic, with an ambition to compete with ChatGPT.
This move involves Google taking a 10% stake in the company, valuing the company at $3B, which is really reasonable valuation for a startup. This will also boost Anthropic’s finances as they buy heavy computing power from Google’s cloud computing division.
Microsoft and OpenAI
Comparing it to Microsoft, this move is similar to when Microsoft invested $1B during the last round of investment 3 years back (link). Thanks to that investment, OpenAI built some awe-inspiring AI systems, like the ChatGPT, that can converse with users through text. And now Microsoft has invested even more in the company, with a multiyear, multi-billion investment. I am looking forward to Google having to invest a multi-billion round of investment.
