Sony’s shutting down The Tomorrow Children

The Tomorrow Children, a free-to-play online game that combines city-building with dystopian action, will shut down in Japan this November. A post on the game’s Japanese website confirmed that the game’s online service will be terminated on Nov. 1.

The PlayStation 4 game launched in October 2016, following a public beta test earlier that summer. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Japanese studio worked with developer Q-Games on the title, which had a unique, Pixar movie-like art style. An early access, paid Founder’s Pack bundle went on sale in September, retailing for $19.99. The free version later replaced this offering with a different paid option.

Players will have until Sept. 28 to purchase in-game currency and the paid content bundle. Keep in mind that they’ll be able to play with that content for just a little more than a month before the entire online game shuts down.

Despite its intriguing premise — players built up and protected a town from giant monsters, among other catastrophes — the game struggled to leave much of an impression post-launch, and poor reviews didn’t help The Tomorrow Children.
