The Astros almost joined the "RSN nightmare" club after the 2023 season, as Warner Bros Discovery told teams that it would be exiting the RSN business after the season. To avoid becoming a member, the Astros partnered with the Rockets to acquire the former AT&T Sportsnet Southwest, rebranding to Space City Network in December. According to reports, Houston is set to take a $23 million paycut after taking over the network. However, that didn't prevent the club from spending to try to reach their eighth straight ALCS. Houston
signed Jose Altuve to a five-year, $125 million extension to keep him an "Astro for life", and agreed to a deal with All-Star closer Josh Hader worth $95 million over five years.
