OKLAHOMA DRILL
This video is a perfect depiction of what we have become in the United States. There is nothing wrong with the young men in this video however there’s a major problem with everyone but them. Most of us will judge the athlete when we need to judge the rule makers, parents, teachers and coaches for not teaching the children. The Oklahoma Drill used to give coaches a very clear bench mark of a players ability and courage. Not anymore, we might as well blindfold the kids because they have no clue what they are doing on the field. Rule makers will likely take full contact sports down completely. They aren’t concerned with education they are only concerned with limiting liabilities while creating a massive widespread liability problem.
Rules prohibit nearly all full contact football practice. Rule makers want your child to go into an dangerous situation without the knowledge and or guidance of how to protect themselves. This is like asking a police officer not to practice shooting his firearm, not to take defensive tactics or driving training. Police officers are required to practice shooting and preform with a certain level of accuracy. So many occupations, sports, etc require you to practice and preform a high level of accuracy. Do you really think China could be the worlds producer of nearly all electronics without a high level of accuracy. If I walked into a the iPhone factory line or an MMA fight tomorrow I’d get beaten like a drum. There’s something to be said about training and repetition it’s called muscle memory. Why do you think you are required to repeat the same movements over and over and over again and again and then again over every day for weeks months when learning self defense, etc... Because you cannot read a book about how to tackle today and execute that perfect textbook tackle during tomorrow’s game without having learned the correct method during weeks of physical practice. I can’t drive a trash truck tomorrow and safely finish a route because I don’t have the training required but, I’ll hit you tomorrow without hesitation and do it correctly because I learned how over and over from grade school into college getting better every-time. It’s an involuntary reaction that saves your life not a picture book, or pep talk. Education requires all levels of involvement not just a lecture. This is what we are doing across the board in the United States from education, sports you name it. We have created an extremely unprepared nation of people. …...more
