'We will have an Iowa State Fair': 2021 fair plans underway
The show will go on at the Iowa State Fairgrounds this summer, according to state fair CEO Gary Slater.
Slater said Friday that plans for the 2021 Iowa State Fair are full steam ahead, barring a significant unexpected resurgence of COVID-19.
“I think everything is looking very well in terms of the ... you look at the restrictions that come down from the governor and state of Iowa have been lifted,” Slater said.
In 2020, COVID-19 forced the first cancelation of the Iowa State Fair since World War II.
According to Slater, the 2020 fair had a complete plan for social distancing before it was canceled. Slater said fair organizers are prepared to use all or parts of the plan for the 2021 fair.
“We will have an Iowa State Fair, but there may be some changes to what the traditional Iowa State Fair looks like,” he said. “But that remains to be seen as we go through this early spring, late spring and early summer.”
Longtime fairgoer Tina Woods said she cannot wait to go to back the Iowa State Fair regardless of what restrictions may be put in place.
“I am so ready to get back to normal (and) to be able to be out there and see people and enjoy the state fair,” Woods said.
The 2021 Iowa State Fair is scheduled for Aug. 12-22.
Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Sam Hunt, Five Finger Death Punch, Styx and Casting Crowns are slated to make grandstand performances.
