Ford’s F-Series tops US charts as best-selling vehicle for 42nd straight year

In what is starting to feel like an obligatory annual announcement, Ford reports that its F-Series has topped the charts as the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the 42nd consecutive year.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker’s F-Series claimed the top spot in the U.S. by selling a reported 909,330 pickup trucks during 2018. Not only did this gain ground on 2017′s high mark of 896,764 by 1.4 percent, but Ford says the F-Series set a personal record by moving more than 70,000 trucks in 10 consecutive months.

As for its rivals, General Motors reports it moved 585,581 of its Silverado trucks during 2018. As for FCA’s Ram, the Auburn Hills-based automaker reports that its truck brand set a new personal record in the past year in delivering 597,368 trucks.

“December capped another strong year for Ford and the industry -- Ford sold more than 900,000 F-Series trucks in 2018 to extend our leadership position to 42 consecutive years as America’s best-selling pickup; our commercial vans mark 40 straight years of leadership and we had a record year for Ford SUVs, all of which helped us post our ninth straight year as America’s best-selling brand," Mark LaNeve, Ford’s vice president of its stateside marketing, sales and service, said in a statement.
