The US will be a distant third, with 229 million users. According to a new study by US-based media agency Zenith, smartphone ownership globally will continue to expand in 2018. The agency said that 66 per cent of individuals in 52 countries will own a smartphone in 2018 – up from 63 per cent in 2017.

Mobile devices will account for 73 per cent of time spent using the internet in 2018 – up from 70 per cent in 2017. By 2019, Zenith predicted mobile to account for 76 per cent of mobile internet use. According to the findings, tablet ownership has also gone up to 18.7 per cent in 2017 – compared to 17.8 in 2016.
