Rosario Dawson says wear black even if you’re not at the Globes

Even to those not attending the Golden Globes, Rosario Dawson says to wear black anyway.

“We wear black to symbolize solidarity,” the actress said in an Instagram video on Friday of the call to wear black to the awards show on Sunday. “The death knell has struck on abusive power, and it’s time to celebrate each other — not just the nominees on our film and television screens but our storytellers who have bravely come forward and courageously shared their stories which have liberated so many of us.”

Dawson then goes on to thank Rose McGowan, Olivia Munn, Ashley Judd, Gabrielle Union and Anthony Rapp, who have been vocal since a torrent of sexual assault and harassment accusations against Hollywood’s elite surfaced.

“Thank you for courageously telling your stories and signaling this moment. Time’s up. Please join us in blacking out Sunday,” she concluded, referencing the initiative in combating sexual assault and harassment against women in the workplace.

The “Time’s Up” campaign — spearheaded by more than 300 actresses and executives including Reese Witherspoon and Shonda Rimes— will push for a marked increase in women hires along with equal pay and benefits across professions both glamorous and otherwise.

Fellow actress Eva Longoria applauded Dawson’s efforts and also invited viewers to “join in.”

“Everyone can join in tomorrow and post a pic of yourself in Black standing in solidarity with women everywhere trying to fight the imbalance of power! #TIMESUP on abuses of power! Today is a new day!” she wrote.

A “Time’s Up” pin will also be seen as a trendy accessory on the red carpet on Sunday.
